Who doesn’t like a good podcast? And who wouldn’t relish the idea of being a guest on their favorite podcast?

I began listening to the Join Us in France podcast a few years ago to quench my thirst for everything French. The show is hosted by Annie Sargent, a French native who as described on her website lived in the UK and the US for many years and is now back in France on a mission to rediscover her home country.

Annie’s podcast is an exceptional resource for anyone interested in the French culture and way of life. She explores various aspects of French living while offering practical travel tips and insights into French history, food, and wine. She also invites interesting guests and listeners to share their own experiences and perspectives on all things French.

If you’ve followed my journey, you’ll know in 2022 my husband and I along with two dear friends rode our bikes 2100 miles from Amsterdam in the Netherlands to Athens, Greece in 52 days. There was no tour group or guide, it was just the four of us on our own unsupported bike trip through Europe.

What some of you might not know is that in 2023, for 22 days, my husband and I ventured back onto the open road. Our journey once again began in Amsterdam where we cycled to Rochefort, France just south of La Rochelle. Averaging 50 miles a day we covered just over 1100 miles. There was no tour group or guide, and this time it was just the two of us. It was time to test ourselves on the open road.

We hope you enjoy this little look inside our self-guided cycling adventure.

Our sincere thanks to Annie for her time and interest as well as her professional recording and interviewing skills. It was so much fun to be on your show and share our cycling adventure across France.

Such an incredible adventure, Susan. Something I have contemplated for sometime here in Canada. Even backroads, drivers here are becoming so dangerous. Glad to hear that drivers are extremely comfortable and used to having cyclists on the road. Plus those connected bike paths sound wonderful. I have heard so much good stuff about Amsterdam. What a great location to begin your journey. So cool your self supported tour was a mix of everything, including different types of accommodation for the night. The one thing that also does worry me is theft. Having the 2 of you it is wonderful one of you can go in to the grocery store while the other watches the bikes. Thank you for sharing.

Hi 👋 Carl thanks for listening to the podcast and it’s always good to hear from you. I read about your trip to New Zealand-what an awesome adventure! So glad your daughter was able to have her long awaited wedding. We are in the planning stages for this year’s trip and we’ve been able to run more this year than usual. How is your running? Do you have any events planned for 2024?

You are very welcome, Susan. I do have a 50k next Saturday. It is 4 loops if 12.5k each. I injured my knee 6 weeks ago in a fall. Just started back running a week ago doing 3k. Did 6k pain free today. Glad to run again and will just run what I can at the race.

Thank you for reading about my New Zealand trip. Really good to see my daughter again, walk her down the aisle and meet my grandkids for the 1st time.

All the best on this years adventure.
